Helping Mama

Lindsay: "Hey Mama. You want some help folding the towels?"

Not exactly what I had in mind, but hey, we are starting good habits young :)

Washington DC

Let me just say, I love when Jarrett has conferences. Actually, I love when I can tag a long with him to his conferences. This past week he had a conference in Washington DC, a city I have never been to and have always wanted to go to. Lindsay and I snuck into his suitcase and here are some of the things we saw... Mount Vernon... Washington's home overlooking the Potomac River

This was on the veranda (I love using that word instead of porch... so much cooler!) The view was amazing. There are a group of ladies who actually protect the view... no one in Maryland (across the river) can build a home or structure within the view of Mt. Vernon. Their goal was to preserve the view as Washington saw it... definitely a nice place to build a home :)
Here is a sweet neighborhood in Alexandria, VA. I loved the row houses. They all have flags on their homes...too cute.
Had to post a picture of Lincoln Monument... went to the Smithsonian and saw a great exhibit on Lincoln; got to see his infamous top hat!

The Capitol

Outside the Capitol with my girl

Inside one of the rooms in the Capitol... I think she was waving to Daddy taking the picture.

WWII Memorial... When I got home I had so many mosquito bites and I couldn't figure out where I got them. Notice all the water in the background.... I am pretty sure there was a mosquito biting me when this pic was taken.

View of the National Mall facing the Washington Monument.... gorgeous.

Daddy and Lindsay in front of the Dinosaur Exhibit in the Smithsonian... She was more interested in the aquarium than the bones.

What a great kid we have! She was such a trooper; she walked with us in the rain, went with us on the subway and toured all the historic sites with her nerdy parents. Here is Colonial Williamsburg... it was really cool to see an actual colonial village. It was a little bit annoying that most of the house tours were guided; those aren't good for babies we discovered.
Favorite moment: This pic is horrible, but we had to take it. We took a scenic drive to Annapolis and drove across the Chesapeake Bay... unfortunately, it was pouring rain and we got stuck on a peninsula after they closed the bridge. We decided to stop for an early dinner and saw a cute little restaurant on one of the docks. We were the only patrons inside the restaurant except for a group of salty sea dogs (ie boat captains/fisherman) at the bar. As we ate our lunch...I had a spectacular Cream of Crab soup... we listened to the seamen drunkenly singing a few favorites like "Yellow Submarine" and "Sweet Child of Mine"... it was a fun memory.

More Colonial Williamsburg... we didn't take a carriage ride, but Lindsay was fascinated. I think we might do a hayride this fall.
A romantic little path we wandered...
A girl and her Daddy

We concluded our trip a day early because my sweet Grandma was in the hospital with a blood clot in her lungs. We were able to get an early flight and come home to see her on Saturday. She is doing much better, Praise God! I am so thankful I was able to come home to be with her :)

Seven Months

Seven Months!! Here is our sweet girl sitting in her rocking chair for her picture...
No stats this month, she hasn't been weighed or measured by the pediatrician. I could attempt to do it, but I think it wouldn't come out right :) Here is what she's been up to lately...

* Eating...Last week we gave Lindsay some sweet potato flavored puffs. At first they were just entertainment; however, within days this girl is getting them in her mouth like a pro! We also gave her some avacado in small pieces; she enjoyed squishing it in her hand more than putting it in her mouth.

* Sippy cup...Lindsay's been using a sippy cup really well. She hasn't ever really taken to bottles, so we decided to skip it and go straight to sippy cup.

* Eyes are still blue; hair is growing! It sticks straight up in back, much like her Daddy's. And it is light brown and straight, no hint of a curl.

* She has yet to cut any teeth, but I can see teeth in her gums..lol. I am in no hurry for her to get teeth. It makes breastfeeding a lot easier without them.

* Crawling... not just yet. She pushes up with her arms, goes from the sitting position to being on her tummy, although can't do it in reverse, and can spin in a circle. She hasn't figured out how to get on her knees and lift the backend up. Maybe by 8 months? We'll see :)

* Sensitive..She has been a bit sensitive in the first few weeks as a seven month old. She cries when anyone talks to her (except for a few people) or she will just stare and stare. It is a little awkward and we are hoping she will grow out of it.

* Childcare! Lindsay went to childcare during my Bible study class on Tuesday! It was the first time I left her with anyone other than the Grandma's, so it was a big step for the both of us. She didn't do too well the first time, but the second time I took her she did much better. I am hoping this will help her be more social too :)

* DaDaDaDaDa.... Lindsay's favorite thing to say. We haven't figured out whether she can actually say "Dada" and mean Jarrett, but it is on the horizon. No MaMaMaMa yet... but hopefully soon lol....
* Sleeping through the night...not so much. She will wake up 1-2 times per night (lately more because I think she's teething). Maybe I can ask Santa for a good night's sleep for Christmas? Just kidding. I wake up anyways even if she's sleeping.
* Favorite time of day: Bathtime! However, she christened her new ducky bathtub on Sunday by pooping in it... I could hear Jarrett gagging in the bathroom. LOL.... It was hilarious (coming from the one who didn't have to clean it up or give her the 2nd bath).
The apple of Daddy's Eye.... and Mommy's too!

Bubbles

This week when I was at the grocery store I picked up some bubbles in the kid's aisle for Lindsay... "Wow, Dad!?! How'd you do that?!?"
Pop!
"Look out bubble, here I come!"

"My turn Dad! I want to blow bubbles too!"

Labor Day Festivities

Labor Day for the Fishers was in one word, Relaxing! After working 12+ hour days for the past three weeks, Jarrett needed some serious sleep and family time. To all those single Mamas, or Mamas whose husbands are frequently away, I admire you! It is exhausting work being the only parent in the household! I am hoping that things slow down so Lindsay(and I) can see more of her Daddy :) I took this pic earlier in the week when Jarrett was working at home one night. Lindsay was "helping" Daddy with his work...lol We hung out on Saturday and ran errands and went to Alumni Park to feed the ducks. Note: The black duck on the left was aggressive and tried to eat all the bread. There were also a ton of turtles in the pond! Lindsay was fascinated by the ducks, although they didn't look like her bathtub.
Daddy protected her from the big black duck...

Jarrett feeding the ducks and turtles. Yes, turtles eat stale bread too.

On Monday we went to the Rotary Club's Labor Day Chili Cook-Off. This year they had a ton of carnival rides and games. Lindsay was a little scared of the noisy games, but loved looking at the Ferris Wheel.

We had a great weekend, and the best part was spending it with the ones we love!

RUN baby RUN

I just did it. I signed up for my first 5K! I am so NOT a runner, but I would like to become one! I actually have 13 weeks to become one. I mapped it out a 5K... is 3.1 miles. Doesn't sound too hard compared to a half marathon which is a whopping 13.1 miles! So I am taking baby steps. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day. http://www.christmasrun.com/ The run benefits Harvest Home, a non profit that provides funds for homeless women and babies in the Los Angeles area.

Lindsay may or may not go with me. I am looking on Craigslist for baby jogging strollers. When we walk on the track she does pretty well; I guess we will see :) I begin training this week for my running adventure!
