Adventures in Rice Cereal

We began the adventure of introducing Lindsay to solids with rice cereal last week.... I mixed it with breastmilk. We have just been giving it to her in the evening before bed. I haven't seen any of the magical rice cereal sleep properties yet.. but I am still hopeful! Overall, I think she did pretty good! Here are some pics...Pre-Dinner time Rice Cereal
Daddy giving the first bite... she was pretty interested...Of course, she had to touch it. She REALLY wanted the spoon..I let her play with it for a minute, but she almost poked her eye so it went bye-bye fast.
A question for Seasoned Moms..Lindsay wanted to put her hands all over the spoon and rice cereal got everywhere (which was expected:) but, do I keep letting her suck the rice cereal off her fingers? Does that impare the spoon eating skill?Yum! She is not quite sure what to think about it... a few seconds later she motioned for some more and tried to grab the bowl....lol

Since she was a MESS.... she went straight into the bath! Scrub-a-dub-dub...
All clean! Got all the rice cereal out from my double chin....whew! Ready for bedtime Mama!

  1. Oh my! She's too precious! Can't wait to see you guys!!! I would give her her own spoon while you feed her with another spoon. I'm so anal, I still don't give the twins a spoon because I HATE cleaning up the mess and it's x2 for us, so they just get finger foods since they refuse any feeding from us now...

  2. I'm with Jolene... We gave Nate his own spoon to "play" with while we fed him with our own. I don't think letting her eat from her fingers at this point will hinder her too much. But as Nate got older and could feed himself with a spoon, we tried to make it a point to tell him to use the spoon and not his fingers, and that usually worked. He still does it occasionally now, but is pretty good with his spoon, and even his fork! (As long as the food is not too hard for him to poke.) :) But, of course, finger foods are still the cleanest and fastest!

Oh, and BTW, I never noticed that famous "rice cereal sleep" either!

  3. Aww so cute! I am with these ladys. I give Thor a spoon to play with while feeding him. He still makes a mess, by getting food all over his play spoon and then tossing it on the floor. Ha Ha, I also did not get that sleep as well in the begining. But once I was feeding him three times a day with solid plus milk he did end up sleeping longer. Looks like you are doing great love and miss ya cant wait to see you!!
